Looking (Way) Ahead to Next Season

Looking (Way) Ahead to Next Season
Westbay-san, can you tell me who are the potential free agents (local and foreign) after this season? And, how deep are the BayStars' "pockets"? What are their chances of signing any of them? How interested are they in acquiring any of them? Do you foresee any drastic moves this off-season?

I know these are alot of questions, but I guess we have until next season to answer them. Thank you.

The BayStars are definitely not one of the big spenders on the FA market, that's usually limited to the Giants, Tigers, Dragons, and the Hawks who outspend the rest of NPB by significant amounts on payroll [Simon Currie - WordPress].

Incidentally, here's the whole list of players who have switched teams via FA [InfoSeek - in Japanese] within NPB or to MLB. Hard to believe that this would be the complete list, but there's very little FA activity in NPB due to the hefty sum of money and/or player that the new team has to give to the old team.

The trade market's very inactive in NPB as well, as there is still a stigma attached to being traded, as the traded players are often viewed that they have become "dispensable" by the establishment and the fans, but this is slowly changing. A forward thinking GM in NPB should be able to exploit some massive inefficiencies in the system.
