Japanese baseball elsewhere

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Japanese baseball elsewhere
How much does the NPB and its teams get involved with baseball outside of Japan? For example, I remember there being a Japanese baseball academy (possibly Toyo Carp) in the Dominican Republic. I believe it's the same one that produced Alfonso Soriano. Is this academy still operational? Also there is some baseball played in Brazil, mostly by players of Japanese descent. Is there any NPB involvement in Brazil?

Former NPB players have played, managed, and coached in Taiwan, Korea, and even places like Philippines I think.

According to the Carp website, they still have an academy in the D.R. and, according to a recent BBC Radio 4 documentary on Dominican baseball, other teams are joining suit.

I'm not 100% sure, but didn't a team or two winter in Taiwan?
