Ishii is a solid infielder, multiple Golden Glove winner, stolen base king 3 years running, and Best Nine 4 years running. He's been the main BayStar lead off hitter for several years now.

What's more, Ishii is a great leader. While Komada was the "official" team captain in 1998 when they won the pennant, it seemed to me that it was Ishii who was the one actually leading the team.

A limited set of Ishii's stats can be found here at IBM BIS.

Ishii does seem to be having an off year, as many of the 'Stars are under new management. While his .294 average is respectable and 32 doubles leads the Central League in that category this season, the 11 errors he's committed is not like him at all.

Even with this being an off year for him, Ishii has hit into only 3 double plays so far this season. Two other players have hit into less (and still qualify for a batting title):
  1. Hiroshima's Kanemoto who set a new record for most plate appearances without hitting into a double play this season, and

  2. Hanshin's Akahoshi, the rookie "F-1 Seven" Tiger who actually made it to getting played every day and looks to take Ishii's stolen base crown away from him (currently with 36 stolen bases to Ishii's 26).

So, does this question mean that some MLB teams have Ishii on their target list this off season?
