Koshien High School Championships - Games Times

Koshien High School Championships - Games Times
I tried posting this on "Open Forum" but no answer, and I thought someone here might know.

I want to attend the Koshien High School Championship that starts on March 23. I can attend on March 23 (opening day) or 24 or 25. I need to find out what time the opening ceremony and games start those days. Any idea, or ideas on how to find out?

Sorry about that. High school games are a bit outside the usual scope. I keep hoping that a high school guru will come along, but that doesn't always happen.

Anyway, I first went to Student-Baseball.or.jp (in Japanese) to see what they had. The top of the page announces the 77th Annual Senbatsu at Koshien starting on March 23 and lasting for 12 days. There is a link to the 2004 Senbatsu coverage on Mainichi Interactive, Mainichi being the main sponsor of this event. But the Mainichi site appears to now be run by MSN, and the Senbatsu page redirects to the top. MSN's search facilities were not helpful.

As the day approaches, more information will become available. Just expect it to start in the morning, at or around 9:00, give or take an hour. If you make a flexible plan around that, you shouldn't have any problems.

I hope you enjoy the trip.

Rather than continue searching the "official" Senbatsu pages at Mainichi Interactive, I poked around Student-Baseball a little more. and I came up with the 2004 tournament chart. The chart is complete with game times and scores.

Day 1's game schedule was:

10:20 Game 1
12:50 Game 2
15:20 Game 3

Thereafter, the schedule was mostly:

09:30 Game 1
12:00 Game 2
14:30 Game 3

Day 9 had only one game at 12:30.

Starting from the quarter finals, there was a bit of fluctuation in the starting times (maybe due to rain - I don't recall completely).

Nonetheless, with the first day's game starting at 10:20, and most first games thereafter at 9:30, the Opening Cerimony being either 9:00 or 9:30 is a fairly good guess.

Thank you, westbaystars, that is exactly what I needed and couldn't find.

I have been in contact by e-mail with a film producer who did a film on the Koshien summer tournamnet that is being edited now. He has helped me to find out some info (such as dates) but since we are hoping to see a morning Koshien game and then go to the sumo tournament at Osaka gym in afternoon, I really needed the time info. Thanks to your posting of the 2005 pre-season schedule, we are able to have three pro games on our itinerary now also.

Three weeks from tomorrow my son and I will be getting ready to go to our first Japan pre-season game. This site made it possible.
