First Time at the Games
Hi, I am coming to Japan in June and want to catch a live Hanshin game to experience the Japanese baseball culture. It is my first time at a baseball game so I am totally clueless. Would you recommend a weekend day game or a Friday night game?

Either. Weekday or weekend, it'll be fun. Try and get tickets for a game at Koshien rather than an away game.

Go to Koshien - any day is fine. Remember to watch the action on the field - it's easy to watch the excitement of the fans and forget that there's a game going on - it's unlike any Major League game I've ever been to.

Weekend tickets at Koshien are sold out until late July or August I believe, but there are plenty of scalpers outside the ground if you don't mind paying a bit extra!

... or funding criminal organisations, or possibly being subject to (presumably) unwanted legal scrutiny.

Like the sign says at Narita - "FOLLOW THE RULES."

I've had luck getting single Giants tickets the day of the game at the box office. Deuces together are tough. To keep it legit, ask your hotel if they can get you tickets through a reliable broker. Scalpers can sell you bogus tickets and, like in America, can be unsavory types.

By all means see a Tigers game. Great fans, classic stadium, and fun all around.

Will you also be going to Tokyo?

I saw a Sunday afternoon Giant's game at the Tokyo Dome a few years ago. I got the ticket the same day, but had to stand in line for hours to do so. After I got in, there was no place to sit and I had to stand the entire game. Maybe I could have gotten a seat if I had purchased a more expensive ticket. I still enjoyed it, but maybe you wouldn't. But a nice thing about the Tokyo Dome is that it also houses the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame, which is worthwhile seeing. This was open the Sunday I went, so I got to see it.

If you're in the Tokyo area, other options are Jingu Stadium in Tokyo (Yakult's home), the stadium in Chiba (Lotte's home), the stadium in Yokohama (BayStars' home), or Seibu Invoice Dome (Lions' home). I haven't been to these stadiums but they're all in the Tokyo area. Seibu's stadium supposedly is hard to get to. I've seen the Yokohama stadium from one of the main train lines, so it must be fairly easy to get to. Supposedly the Chiba stadium is fairly easy to get to also. Chiba is also the nearest stadium to Narita Airport.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!
