８日に連敗を６で止めたばかりの西武が約１カ月ぶりの連勝を飾った。中島、和田、Ｇ・Ｇ・佐藤の２ラン３本などで中盤までに打線が大量援護。小野寺は５回４失点ながら先発転向後の初勝利を４試合目で挙げた。ヒルマン監督の辞任が発表され、チーム一丸となったはずの首位日本ハムに完勝。試合前に同監督と固い握手を交わした伊東監督は「昨日の勝ちで今日はみんな気持ちよく打ってくれた」と久々の連勝をかみしめた。
