楽天は１０安打を放ち八回まで毎回走者を出したが、わずか１得点。野村監督は「久々に楽天野球が出たな」と効率の悪い攻めを自嘲気味に振り返った。五回無死一塁でバスターエンドランを仕掛けたが、渡辺直が空振りして走者はタッチアウト。２点を追う七回無死一、二塁では高須に強攻させたものの、見逃し三振に倒れた。指揮官は「責任感が体を硬直させるのかな。それしか考えられない」と首をかしげた。
