日本ハムは２１日、オリックスを１３－５で破り、２位ソフトバンクが敗れたため優勝へのマジックナンバー「８」が点灯した。５番高橋信二（２９）が３点ビハインドの４回、一時逆転となる満塁弾。さらに５－５で迎えた８回無死一、三塁では、高橋の三塁ゴロが相手失策を生む“ラッキー打”で決勝点をたたき出し、この回、一気に２年ぶりの１イニング８点を奪った。最短でのリーグＶは２６日の楽天戦（札幌ドーム）。リーグ連覇へ、今季限りで勇退するヒルマン監督がいよいよ有終の美を飾る。
