西武の黄金時代が幕を下ろした。ロッテ戦に敗れ、レギュラーシーズン７試合を残してＡクラスの可能性が消滅した。８２年から２５年間続いてきた連続Ａクラスの日本記録がついにストップ。低迷の責任を背負う形で、伊東勤監督（４５）の今季限りでの退任が決定的となった。シーズン終了を待って新体制づくりに乗り出すが、後任には渡辺久信２軍監督（４２）の昇格が有力となっている。
