落合中日が、川上、谷繁のバッテリーで２年連続日本シリーズ出場に王手をかけた。セ・リーグのクライマックスシリーズ（ＣＳ）第２ステージで原巨人に連勝だ。エース川上憲伸投手（３２）は粘って７回を４失点、バスターも決める２安打を放った。谷繁元信捕手（３６）は４安打で巨投を粉砕した。第１ステージから打率５割６分２厘とＭＶＰ級の働きだ。中日は２０日の第３戦に勝てば、日本ハムと日本シリーズ（２７日～）を戦うことが決定する。
