キャンプイン前日で「緊張します」と話し、休養予定を急きょ変更。自主トレで練習場を訪れた際に、青木と初対面した。軽いあいさつ程度だけだったが「格好いいです。間近で見ると違いますね」。練習風景に熱視線を送るなど、球界を代表する打者だけに学ぶことは多いと考えている
