Fumiya Nishiguchi Should be on MLB Radar

Fumiya Nishiguchi Should be on MLB Radar
Seibu's Fumiya Nishiguchi (33) just threw a perfect game in 9 innings against Rakuten. He gave up one hit and one walk in the 10th inning, but ended up getting the complete game shutout victory for a 16-4 record so far this year.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of seeing him go for a no hitter against the Giants. Takayuki Shimizu ended up hitting a solo home run off of him in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs.

Everyone always talks about Matsuzaka, but Nishiguchi has been Seibu's ace this year. He's not as young as Matsuzaka, but he's been one of the most consistent starters in Japan for the past decade.

Matsuzaka and Nishiguchi have both been performing well this year, Matsuzaka just hasn't gotten the run support which makes him look worse (or bad, if you only measure with W-L record, as some do). Nishiguchi has had a few extraordinary games with the almost no hitter and perfect game, though. But Seibu is seriously lacking the bottom half of the rotation, oh dear.

Wow, 178 pitches.

Wow. But, at which pitch count would MLB teams pull starters throwing perfect games, though? Then again, this is why some people are worried about Matsuzaka's arm.

Old Japanese pitchers seem rare, but then again, there's only 12 teams.

I was wowing at Ichiba's 178 pitches through 9 and Fumiya threw 137 pitches through 10.

I heard Fumiya is staying with Seibu to get the 1,500 K mark and wants to go to the MLB.

... and won't go to the MLB.
