Yankees, Matsui Reach Deal
The New York Yankees and outfielder Hideki Matsui reached an agreement on a 4 year $52 million deal. He will earn $13 million per year, making him the highest paid Japanese player in the majors, breaking Ichiro's 4 yr/$44 million contract. The new contract also has a no-trade clause.

Matsui batted .297 with 70 HRs and 330 RBI with the Yankees since 2003, and was elected to the 2003 and 2004 AL All Star teams.

About time! It's great watching Matsui perform under high stress situations. It is amazing how he can deal with the Japanese and New York press and, of course, the pressure from Mr. S.

Now all they need is starting pitching, some middle relief, and A-Rod to hit in the playoffs.
