Swallows to Allow Iwamura to Leave for Majors in 2006
Swallows' president Yoshikazu Tagiku indicated Wednesday that the Swallows will likely allow third baseman Akinori Iwamura to make a switch to the major leagues next year.

Tagiku said he will consider putting Iwamura up on auction with the posting system if he turns in a solid performance for the 2006 season. Iwamura batted .320 with 30 HR and 102 RBI in 2005. [Full Japan Ball Article]

He's eligible for FA after the 2007 season, right? Tagiku's probably just making a sound business decision.

Right.

He probably promised one or more of his "other" women marriage on similar terms. What's with these new verbal "incentives"?

He said the same thing about Iwamura after the 2004 season as well. Even though Iwamura had a good 2005, but not quite as good as 2004, Iwamura was told he just wasn't good enough to be posted for 2006. I'll believe Iwamura is posted when it actually happens. You can't trust what the management of any Japanese baseball team says, and that is unfortunate.

Too bad Iwamura will have to wait. I find him one of the most interesting prospects for MLB. He has power and good defense, but am worried that that long swing of his won't be able to catch up with MLB pitching.

I guess we'll have to wait still before we find out.
