White Sox' Shingo Takatsu

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
White Sox' Shingo Takatsu
What can Takatsu pitch and how fast can he pitch the ball? I know he has a great curveball, but can he only pitch 80 mph against a left hand hitter?

From what I heard, Takatsu can throw in the 80's. The White Sox are highly impressed with Takatsu's slider.

Takatsu throws a nasty slider which is called as "sinker" in Japan, described as anti-gravity motion on ESPN. I'm pretty sure that his slider will impress ball fans in the U.S. I've been watching him pitch for many years and, the only thing I can say to you is "enjoy his pitching!"

After playing with Takatsu for 2 years I would compare him to a side-arm version of Trevor Hoffman. And I say this because his fastball and sinker are the same motion and look like twins coming in to a hitter. When I played against Hoffy, his fastball only 90-91 and his change up are identical in release and movement, that being the reason he's so difficult to time as a hitter.
