Tazawa's Debut

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Tazawa's Debut
A good evening for Nichi-Bei baseball in the USA. Stayed up late last night watching three simultaneous marathons... (1) Yankees - Red Sox (2 - 0, 15 innings); (2) Braves - Dodgers (9 - 5, 12 innings); and Mariners - Rays (7 - 6, 11 innings). Ichiro had an electrifying two-run hit in the 7th that tied the score in Seattle and paved the way for an extra-innings win.

But it was Junichi Tazawa's debut in the Bronx that made the biggest noise (the third Japanese Red Sox pitcher of the night, after Okajima and Saito!). He looked sharp with a nifty change-up -- the first batter he faced was Hideki Matsui who flied out -- but unfortunately Alex Rodriguez tagged Tazawa for a dramatic two-run sayonara homer in the bottom of the 15th. A tough situation for a rookie, but I thought he demonstrated a lot of poise, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him again soon.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
