CPBL: Bears sign Martin Vargas

The La New Bears have signed 28 year old right handed pitcher Martin Vargas to a contract. The former NPB player was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in four games with the Potros de Tijuana of the Triple-A Mexican League this season.

With the Bears Vargas will be used in relief as Ramon Morel and Kenneth Rayborn (also both former NPB players) are the two foreign starters. Rayborn is having an outstanding year at 13-2 with a Chinese Professional Baseball League leading 1.58 ERA in 16 games.

Meanwhile Billy Sylvester and Koji Takekiyo have been called up by the Sinon Bulls as teams look to lock in their three foreign players as the August 31 deadline for foreign player transactions looms.
