CPBL: Bears Sign Donny Leon
To bolster their starting lineup, the La New Bears have signed 29 year old third baseman Donny Leon. The switch hitter batted .316 with 23 home runs and 86 RBIs in 107 games this season for Pericos de Puebla of the Triple-A Mexican League. The Bears have been looking for a replacement at the hot corner since Todd Betts went down with an injury.

Meanwhile the Bears have also signed another foreign pitcher - 35 year old Tony Fiore. The right hander was 3-4 with a 7.62 ERA in 13 games for the Toledo Mud Hens of the Triple-A International League. The Bears have released Martin Vargas who was 1-0 with a 8.53 ERA in 2 games.

In other transactions the Brother Elephants have released injured pitcher Joey Dawley and fellow hurler Todd Erdos who was 0-3 with 5 saves and a 2.35 ERA 13 games. He had two blown save opportunities.

He was on the minor league team for La New. I don't think they ever felt the need to bring him up so they released him.
