Korea and Taiwan

Discussion in the Baseball Asia forum
Korea and Taiwan
I don't know much about baseball in either Korea or Taiwan, but would like to find out.

I sort of hoped the Around Asia thread could fill me in, but there doesn't seem to have been a lot of traffic so far. (Perhaps because it was introduced as the seasons were winding down?)

So I'd like to ask a question first up: Does anyone know where one can find info in the web in English or Japanese regarding Korean and Taiwanese baseball? I tried a search, but only came up with some Korean language stuff. While I speak and read a little Korean, it's certainly not enough to understand the KBO website.

A good foundation for Korean and Taiwan baseball is the book "Total Baseball-sixth editition: the Official Encyclopedia of Major League Baseball". This book has sections on Korean and Taiwanese baseball history written by Thomas St. John and Jeffrey Wilson respectively.

For Korean baseball news I use The Korea Times site and go to "sports."

For Taiwan baseball see The Taipei Times site.

Also Gary Garland's site under "Daily News" often has Korean & Taiwanese baseball news.

Found a bit of info to answer my own question here.

Hope it's useful.

Thank you Torakichi for the KBO site. Did you notice on the "history" page that former NPB star Jinten Haku (Baik In-chun in Korean) holds the BA record. On the same page, Park Chul-soon who played in San Antonio in the early 1980s is mentioned.

The site lists the existing francises but I would like info concerning franchise changes such as what happened to the MBC Dragons.

Me too. I know that a number of franchises have come and gone, but am not too sure of the details. Looking at the KBO site, we see that a fair portion of the existing teams are quite new in their current guises. I'd like to find out the whole story.

Hey, go to our site, kbo.hyperboards.com. It's our start at a Korean, Japanese, and Taiwan baseball forum. It's all in English. Any comments you have about your perspective country, throw it in!

Oh and there is no English anything on Korean baseball in Korea, I already checked, just go to our site I will try to update some stats and leaders weekly.

Chris, you have a good site. My username in your site is "yakyuyagu."

The KBO has a six-page site in English: KBO History
