I'll try my best to answer your questions. But I don't know the answers to some, and with others I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

1. My advice is to do a google search for a Japanese Katakana chart. There are at least two good ones up on the web, though the web addresses escape me. Print out the Katakana chart and keep it next to you as you play. Use it, learn it. You'll be reading pitch types in no time.

2. I'm fairly certain that player ratings can fluctuate due to age, etc.

3. I don't know if you can actually teach a pitcher new pitches in League mode.

But I'm pretty sure that boxes containing bars that fill up are for teaching players new abilities. When I chose my coaching staff at the start of my league, I chose a Hitting Coach that can teach power hitting and I chose a Fielding/Running coach that can teach base running ability. I've assigned these 2 boxes with bars to 2 guys on my team. I assume that eventually the bars will fill up completely and these 2 guys will receive a new special ability.

And if you search this site, you should find all of the batting and pitching special abilities translated. All credit goes to BigManZam and Shinigami for the translation.

4. As far as I know, there are 4 basic sections to your pitching rotation.

The top one contains your starters. And how the pitchers are arranged in this top box determines your rotation. First guy is your #1, second guy is #2, etc.

The second section contains your middle relievers.

The third one contains your set-up men.

The last one contains your closer(s).

And if you tinker around with it, you'll find that you can get rid of entire sections if you wish. For example, one of my OB/Hall of Fame teams has about 8 guys in the starting rotation.

I'm sure there's a lot more you can do with your rotation, but I don't know how to do it. My Japanese is not very good.

5. I too would like to know exactly what the stars mean. I see stars when scouting for the draft, and I see stars when picking my coaching staff. I'm not exactly sure what they mean though.
