A few questions....

A few questions....
ok first off... this is a great site I'm glad i found it. I have had an interest in Nippon Pro Baseball since since I was a kid. My uncle works for Nissan and made a few trips to Japan. He used to bring me back things like Yokahama Bay Stars hats and stuff. Well thats where it started.

So I have researched buying games on and off for a while. But I have never made the plunge. I knew it would take a modded ps2 or japan version etc etc. So after some searching for nippon baseball games I found this site and would love to try it. What do I need? mod chip or japan ps2? And of which game? I am more into the sim type and realistic looking players... not too cartoony. And the real bad part is I can't read or speak Japanese. But I am willing to try it out.

So can you guys help? Thanks in advance...

Welcome aboard.

First you need a mod chip for your PS2. I have a Japanese PS2 but its really difficult to get one nowadays, so I'll go toward the mod chip.

Second, If you want simulation with realistic players then get Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2. Its the best baseball game with realistic players. However, People around here choose Pawapuro because the gameplay is almost flawless but it have a cartoony look.

Check some of the topics here to get a fill on how the two are.

If you don't feel comfortable openning up your console to insert a mod chip, you could go with a slide card.

I use a slide card. I got mine at:

http://modchip.com/ps2/

Also, play-asia.com had Japanese PS2s available as of a few days ago. The price range is $200-$220 US.

As far as games go, I completely agree with Skinz. If you MUST have realistic looking players, then go with Pro Spirits 2. But Pawapuro's ("Powerful Pro Baseball") gameplay is unrivaled.

Or you could just get both games - Powerful Pro Baseball 12 Ketteiban and Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2. Play-asia.com offers discounts for purchasing multiple titles.

I play Pawapuro. I wrote a few Pawapuro FAQ/Guides a while back. I'm more than happy to email them to anyone who requests them.

I don't speak much Japanese either. In fact, the only Japanese I do speak I've learned from playing the Pawapuro series. So my FAQ/Guides are written for people who don't speak Japanese. They explain basic stuff like how to play an exhibition match, how to start a season/league, and how to adjust the difficulty settings.
