This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.
It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.

Opening/Title Screen:
When you see Matsui swinging, the blinking words at the bottom of the screen say, “Game Start.” So press the “Start” button.
Main Menu:
-Exhibition -Season -Arrange/Edit
-Success -League -Homerun Derby
-Practice/Training -Player Cards -Shop
-Sound -Data Management -B/S/O/Text Language
In Japanese games, the “Circle” button generally means “Enter/Select” and the “X” button generally means “Cancel/Go Back.” This is the opposite of most North American and European games. It feels funny at first, but it didn’t take me long to adjust.
On the Main Menu, I recommend doing two things right away.
First, go to –Sound. Go to the second option from the top and switch it from PINK writing to BLUE writing with the D-Pad. Hit OK and make sure it saves. This BLUE writing gives you English play-by-play commentary.
Second, go to –Balls/Strikes/Outs/Text Language. Go to the PINK box on the right and hit “Circle.” Hit OK and make sure it saves. This PINK box gives you the North American “Balls before Strikes” display and also switches BOLD in-game text such as, “BALL, STRIKE, FOUL, INFIELD FLY RULE, and SIDE RETIRED” into English. You’ll know its saved when its color on the Main Menu switches from GOLD/YELLOW to PURPLE.
Exhibition Game:
After choosing Exhibition Game from the Main Menu, you’ll come to a screen with three boxes. The top box (ORANGE) is a 1-Player game. The middle box (BLUE) is a 2-Player game. And the last box (GREEN) is a CPU vs. CPU game. Choose one of the three.
If you choose 1 or 2-Player game, the next screen you’ll see will have two boxes. The top box (BLUE) is Normal settings. The bottom box (ORANGE) is Rookie settings. Rookie lets the CPU handle baserunning and fielding for your team. But beware, the default levels for CPU baserunning and fielding are Normal. And Normal is much too weak, even for a beginner. I’ve never chosen Rookie. The baserunning and fielding are just as brilliant as the batting and pitching. So choose Normal (BLUE)!
Now you’re at Team Select. God help you if you can’t figure this out.
After you’ve chosen your teams, you’ll come to the Home/Away, Uniform Select Screen. Choose Home and away with the D-Pad. You’ll see the uniforms change. But just to be sure, the ORANGE writing at the top-center of this screen points to the Away Team and the BLUE writing points to the Home Team. Hit the “Circle” button once you’ve decided. Now the Uniform Select option should pop up. Choose uniforms for both teams and move on by pressing “Circle.”
Now you’re at Stadium Select. Again, God help you… From top to bottom, the distances, in meters, give the fence distances for Left, Left-Center, Center, Right-Center, and Right Field. Pick a stadium and move on.
Now you’re at the General Game Settings Menu. *I cannot fully translate this menu, mainly because I haven’t had to mess with it that much. You’ll see two columns of six boxes. Here’s what I know going Left to Right, Top to Bottom:
-DH On/Off (Automatically switches based on Home Team.)
-Errors On (GREEN/Default) / Off (BLUE)
-CPU Difficulty (I recommend pressing “Circle” twice and setting this to POWERFUL.)
-Wind(?) (I’m not sure about this one, I always leave it GREEN/Default.)
-Day(GOLD) or Night(GREEN/Default) Game
-unknown
-Game Length
-unknown
-Extra-Innings Maximum (before a draw is called)
-unknown
-unknown
-Player Condition Change On (GREEN/Default) / Off (BLUE) [Thank you Shinigami.]
*If anyone could translate these four “unknowns” or offer other corrections, I’d appreciate it.
Hit “OK” and move on. You’re now at the Roster Adjustment menu. You should see three boxes across the top of the screen. The ORANGE “OK” advances to the next menu. The GREEN box takes you to Fielder/Batter Adjustment mode. The PINK box takes you into Pitcher Adjustment mode.
Your starting lineup is located along the left side of the screen, beneath the ORANGE heading. Your current bench is located in the middle-right portion of the screen, beneath the GREEN heading. And your minor league players are located on the right beneath the BLUE “AAA” heading.
