Sikorski Released by Padres

Sikorski Released by Padres
Just read in the news that the Padres have released Brian Sikorski. Stats weren't that bad either for spring training. Is it possible that he could come back to Japan? Fans seemed to love him and he also did very well here.

I'd love to see him come back to Chiba.

They weren't all that good, either. Sikorski finished 1-0 with a 5.19 ERA in 7 games with the Padres. He had 8 walks to 7 strikeouts. There could be a high possibility for him to be headed back to Japan, though Rakuten will get the first dabs at him, because part of their agreement to release him was that he wouldn't sign with any other NPB team. To my undrestanding, Rakuten was compensated by the Padres and there was no such agreement saying Sikorski couldn't play in Japan.

Spring training is spring training, I don't put a lot of faith in those numbers. The season is where it counts and Sikorski has pitched well here. Just thought he could be a great addition for a team here trying to contend.

Spring training numbers don't have much bearing for how the regulars perform during the season, but roster decisions are made on Spring numbers. Maybe management figures that numbers for players on the bubble matter because they're playing seriously (where as the regulars are just working through their kinks?).

That's not the point, part of the agreement of releasing Sikorski was that he wouldn't sign with another NPB team. That's the main question.

Sikorski cleared waivers and was just re-signed to a minor league contract, and optioned to AAA Portland. [Full MLB.com Article]

Go get 'em Brian...sure as hell would rather be in the minors with a ML team, than that joke they have running in Miyagi.

watched this guy pitch a few times last year, he is a head hunter. Seems to me that he cant quite hold it all together when he is under pressure on the mound. Arm seems strong, maybe he needs to see a sports shrink to get his act together and make another run at the bigs.
